TinyTaffenRing 09 – Llandow Trackday

Published by admin

The annual return to Llandow could not be in complete contrast to my previous visits. Instead of enjoying the exceptional grip in Welsh sunshine, the campsite and track were somewhat flooded under what can only be described as bucketfuls of Welsh water. Apparently this was the tail end of one of the first hurricanes of the year, but to the car owners, it was merely a way to test prowess on what was no longer a grippy track.

I’ll admit that it’s taken me three weeks to get the video online, but that’s mainly been due to me being busy with a new job – as well as waiting for a new video editing package to be delivered. This is officially my first attempt to use the full Final Cut Suite of tools, with my previous attempts on the Mac Platform only using a single application.

The trackday was of course preceded by the night before in Llandow campsite, which was somewhat muddy – even though the rain temporarily stayed away. The usual 30 tents of the car club stuck in one corner much to the annoyance of the two tents that were already there – cue a pair of angry lesbians who seemed to resent the presence of 50+ testosterone producing Petrolheads. The other young couple just seemed to accept that £6.50 doesn’t guarantee you privacy when your camped next to a racing circuit.

Trackday wise, it rained, there were puddles, we got wet, there were no accidents. A couple of incidents where Audi’s went cross country, a Toyota faced the wrong way and the track being scattered with the detritus that fell from Homers playstation jap import – but apart from that, it was an uneventful day. (Again – discounting the f**king wasps)

Somehow, I still managed to clock up over 70 miles on track and appraising the video afterwards, I’m happy to spot a number of things I need to improve on my technique – as well as spotting a few things I’ve successfully adopted since my last track outing.

Just need to start work on organising the next event now…
